Carvell is known for portraying Malcolm X opposite Forest Whitaker on the MGM+ series Godfather of Harlem. Carvell joined the series as a regular in Season 3 as “the radical militant preacher who left the Nation of Islam and traveled the world to press for black political advancement, finds himself in the cross-hairs of danger from former associates, in addition to the NYPD, FBI and CIA,” according to the network. He returned for Seasons 4 and 5.

His TV credits also include a recurring role on Prime Video’s The Runarounds, a multi-season arc as Obadiah on Tyler Perry’s Ruthless, and recurring roles on Dexter: Resurrection, as the manager of the hotel where Dexter’s son Harrison works, and NCIS: New Orleans. Additional credits include ABC’s Will Trent, Peacock’s Dr. Death, ABC’s The Baker and the Beauty and Cinema Toast.

Carvel can currently be seen in the fifth and final season of Netflix’s global hit Outer Banks, recurring as treasure hunter and villain Anton Finch. Outer Banks is set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where a tight-knit group of teens from the wrong side of the tracks called the “Pogues” embark on a mission to find their ringleader’s missing father. In the process, they stumble across a treasure map that unearths a long-buried secret.

As a voice artist, Carvell has narrated more than 75 documentaries and programs for National Geographic, the BBC, and PBS.
