Paul W Downs is shutting down any potential for a Hacks spinoff around his character Jimmy and Megan Stalter‘s Kayla.

The 43-year-old not only starred in the HBO Max series, but he’s also a co-creator, writer and executive producer.

Earlier this year, Hacks aired its fifth and final season finale, and it just broke the record for most comedy series nominations in a single season at the 2026 Emmy Awards with 25, including nods for both Paul and Megan!

While speaking out about the show’s many nominations, Paul also addressed the possibility of a spinoff, saying it’s “not going to happen.”

“The reason is that the story has been very important to us; we pitched its ending from the beginning,” he told Variety. “Because we were able to end it in the way that we did, it feels like something we do not want to change in any way. We want it to exist the way it did.”

“We feel so happy with how it ended, and we are so happy with how people have reacted to the finale of the show,” Paul added. “For that reason, it’s something that we want to leave [as is]. I’ve never definitively said that, but I’m definitively saying that. I’m not being coy, I’m telling you the truth. It’s not happening.”

If you missed it, find out why Hacks came to an end after five seasons.
