Jeannie Bocchicchio, the singer who formerly went by Gia Farrell, is voicing her desire to be involved in the upcoming Broadway adaptation of Happy Feet.

For those who don’t know, Jeannie‘s song “Hit Me Up” was featured on the soundtrack for the Happy Feet movie back in 2006 and it became the theme song for the Oscar-winning film. She attended the L.A. premiere of the film that year at the age of 17, mingling with stars like Brittany Murphy and Jason Mraz.

The soundtrack, which also featured Prince‘s “The Song of the Heart,” was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Happy Feet is heading to Broadway soon

The beloved movie will be adapted for the stage, featuring a book written by Douglas Lyons and a score featuring the hit songs from the motion picture “alongside a lineup of chart-topping favorites audiences know and love.”

Two-time Tony Award-winning director Michael Arden will direct the musical. The choreography team will include tap dancer and choreographer Ayodele Casel and award-winning choreography duo Lauren Yalango-Grant & Christopher “Cree” Grant.

Here’s the synopsis: “Born into a world that measures worth by song, Mumble’s extraordinary dancing sets him apart—and sends him on a life-changing adventure that challenges tradition, celebrates individuality, and reveals the power of daring to be different.”

Dates for productions of the show, along with additional creative team members and cast members, will be announced in the future.

Jeannie learned that auditions are happening for the musical

Jeannie wrote on Instagram Stories, “Found out that auditions for Happy Feet The Broadway play are happening today and Thursday. But I’m not able to make [it]. Since my song was one of the main songs for the movie, it would be an honor to be a part of this.”

Jeannie also posted a photo of the Happy Feet DVD, which highlighted her music video as a special feature.

Michael Arden saw Jeannie‘s post and sent her a reply!

“Hey! Amazing message. I passed your info along to the casting folks! Congrats on an awesome career and for inspiring many people along the way!” Michael wrote in the message.

Seeing Jeannie on Broadway in Happy Feet would definitely be full circle for the project!
