Jenna Bush Hager is answering the hard-hitting questions.
After viewers noticed the Today personality was missing from the morning show’s first and second hours Aug. 10, she clarified that her absence was due to travel plans.
“I’m straight off a flight,” Hager said as Today With Jenna & Sheinelle kicked off the program’s fourth hour. “I was in Maine with my family, and my little nephew got baptized, which was so sweet.”
Though the 44-year-old missed out on the morning’s “Jenna’s Morning Boost” and “Pop Start” segments, which she is normally present for, she affectionately reflected on her family time in New England, including when she got “kind of weepy” at the baptism during her recitation of a poem by Mary Oliver.
“I was reading it, and it was in the church where I’ve gone with my grandparents my whole life, my kids were baptized there,” she continued. “There’s something sort of evolutionary about looking up and seeing your twin sister hold this big ol’ baby, and I couldn’t help it.”
Plus, as she put it, “It was so fun to have all the cousins together.”
While Hager’s absence earlier in the morning was notable, she wasn’t the only Today anchor to be missing from the panel. In fact, Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer and Carson Daly were all out of office.
Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie returned to the show Aug. 10 after being out for multiple weeks. And though she took an extended break from Today earlier this year amid the ongoing investigation into her mom Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, her most recent absence was due to her role as host of an upcoming game show.
"I’m headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks,” the journalist explained during the July 16 broadcast. “We’re going to shoot the whole season, and we’re super excited. Cannot wait for everyone to see it.”
But while she was out, she also made sure to spend time with her former co-anchor and bestie Hoda Kotb.
"My favorite place," Kotb captioned an Aug. 6 Instagram photo of herself with Guthrie sitting outside near a sunny pool. "Next to you."
