Dakota Johnson was not previously announced as a presenter for the VMAs, but she just made a surprise appearance!
The 36-year-old actress showed up to present the Artist Director Honors to BFF Taylor Swift at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 27) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Dakota will also be making another appearance during the show tonight!

Dakota appears in Taylor‘s new video for “Patient Zero” and the video is set to premiere during the VMAs this evening.
It’s going to be a big week for Dakota as her movie Verity also hits theaters on Friday.
Dakota Johnson commented on working alongside her, calling it “wonderful”
“Working with your friends is like the most fun thing on the planet because we’ve known each other for so long, we respect each other’s creative minds, and to be able to work alongside her and support and assist and be a person whom she tells what to do is wonderful,” Dakota told Variety.
Dakota Johnson also revealed her usual motto for working with her friends
“Taylor and I have been friends for a really long time and we’re very close, and we decided to work together and it’s great. Normally I would say ‘Don’t work with your friends,’ but we work really well together. It was so fun. So fun. It was the best. We just had the best time,” she told Fan Girl Nation.
