EXCLUSIVE: Australian crime drama Scrublands is back for a third season, and we’ve got first look images and casting news.

Luke Arnold (Black Sails) and Bella Heathcote (Pieces of Her) will return to lead Season 3, which is for Aussie streamer Stan and its broadcast sister 9Network. Scrublands: Trust, as it will be known, will see the pair chasing conspiracy and corruption through Sydney’s underbelly and the vast vistas of the Blue Mountains.

Joining Arnold and Heathcote are Lincoln Younes (Last King of the Cross), and Danielle Cormack (Wentworth), with Sarah Roberts (Home and Away) and Nicholas Bell (Bay of Fires) also returning.

Easy Tiger is making the four-part season, which is based on Chris Hammer’s bestselling novel Trust and has Sphere Abacus attached for international distribution. Filming has begun in Sydney, and you can see first-look images above and below.

Scrublands: Trust will jump the action back a decade on previous seasons. Per the synopsis: “Mandy Bond (Heathcote) thought she’d dealt with her past, but an old name has come back to haunt her: Tom Molloy (Younes). The man who stole $15 million before vanishing, the fiancé she never told Martin about. His body has been found and with it emerge secrets Mandy is desperate to keep hidden.

“Meanwhile her partner, investigative reporter Martin Scarsden (Arnold), is rocked when his long-time mentor, Max Fuller (Bell), apparently suicides mere hours after asking Martin for help on a big story. Martin picks up where Max left off, his search leading him through the back lanes of Sydney, the homes of the rich and powerful, and headlong into a bloody shoot-out in the depths of the Blue Mountains. The closer Martin gets to answers, the more risks he’ll have to take, as killers-for-hire, corrupt developers and powerful figures stand in between him and the truth.”

Nine Entertainment’s Executive Director of Entertainment, Michael Healy, said the “incredible response to the first two seasons of Scrublands indicates a massive appetite for premium Australian crime drama.”

“The continued enthusiasm for this series is a testament to Chris Hammer’s compelling stories and the extraordinary work of our cast and creative team,” added Easy Tiger co-founders and exec producers Ian Collie and Rob Gibson in a statement.

Collie and Gibson – whose company is also set to launch the final season of Colin From Accounts – produce Scrublands: Trust alongside Ally Henville. Felicity Packard is the writer and producer, with Lisa Matthews the director. Healy and Andy Ryan from 9Network and Stan are exec producers, with Screen NSW providing production support.
