Bonnaroo organisers have announced that the festival will be taking a “much-needed” year off in 2027.
Last year, the Manchester, Tennessee festival was abruptly cancelled, with organisers saying an updated weather forecast had shown unsustainable conditions for on-site campers, with heavy thunderstorms occurring throughout the area.
In a post recently shared to their social media channels, Bonnaroo organisers explained that the extreme conditions experienced over the past few years led to them deciding to take a break in 2027 so that the festival grounds can recover.
“As you know, we spent a great deal of effort and money working to improve the campgrounds and Centeroo in the months leading into the 2026 festival,” the post read.
“That included improved drainage, 4.5 miles of new roadways, and 135 acres of new grass, all which strengthened The Farm’s resiliency to Mother Nature. With limited time to recuperate from back to back years of storms, including the heavy rainstorm on Sunday this year, The Farm, particularly the main venue, needs a break to rest and recover.”

They added that “this wasn’t an easy decision, and not one we take lightly, but in our hearts, we know this break will only make Bonnaroo better.”
Bonnaroo has been plagued by severe weather several times over its past few iterations, first in 2020 after it was pushed back due to the Covid pandemic before inevitably being cancelled. The following year, it was then called off due to rainfall.
The 2025 line-up was due to be topped by Tyler, The Creator, Olivia Rodrigo and Hozier, and appeared to get off to a strong star, but was unexpectedly cancelled due to “record-setting rainfall” causing unsustainable conditions for on-site campers.
Bonnaroo 2026 took place from June 11-14, featuring headlining sets from The Strokes, Turnstile, Skrillex and Noah Kahan and more. As aforementioned, ahead of the festival’s return earlier this year, a series of changes were announced, including improved drainage, miles of new roadways and 135 acres of new turf. The post Bonnaroo to take “much-needed” year off in 2027 to recover from extreme weather appeared first on NME.
