Squeeze have cancelled one of their shows in Virginia and spoken out about how the decision was made due to the unexpected and “tragic” death of a crew member.
The band were set to play in Vienna, Virginia last night (Thursday September 3), as part of their ongoing US tour with Adam Ant and Haircut 100.
In a statement, Squeeze confirmed that the gig had been cancelled just hours before doors were set to open, as a worker had been killed in a “tragic event”.
“Squeeze are deeply saddened and shocked by an incident that occurred at the venue earlier today, which resulted in the loss of a life,” they shared on their social media channels.
“After discussions with the venue and the relevant authorities, the decision was made to cancel this evening’s performance.”
Their post continued: “We will work with the promoter and venue regarding the possibility of rescheduling the show and will communicate further information to ticket holders as soon as it is available. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event.”

The incident, police told the outlet, was caused by the apparatus holding the vehicle malfunctioning.
The victim has not yet been named.
A spokesperson for the venue in question, the Wolf Trap National Park For The Performing Arts, has also shared a statement: “There was an accident involving a member of the community at Wolf Trap National Park today, tragically resulting in a loss of life. Out of respect, tonight’s show has been cancelled.”
As a result of this earlier fatality at Wolf Trap, tonight’s Squeeze concert has been CALLED OFF.
