FRIDAY AM UPDATE: Jio Studios & B62 Studios’ Aditya Dhar-directed action movie Dhurandhar: The Revenge has ended its first week worldwide $115.3M U.S. (₹1088 CRORES). Of that $86.2M is from India, and $29.1M from North America/other foreign territories. As we told you, for a Bollywood movie (Hindi language), this is a global first week record, ahead of Paathan ($111.8M reported, ₹1,055Cr). But for an Indian film it’s second behind Pushpa 2 – The Rule ($184.6M reported, ₹1,742Cr) which is a Tollywood movie (Telegu language).

MONDAY AM: Jio Studios & B62 Studios’ Aditya Dhar-directed action movie Dhurandhar: The Revenge scored the second-biggest global opening ever for an Indian title with $81M (₹761 Crores) in its first five days of release.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge‘s opening in regards to reported historical figures (not adjusted for inflation) ranks behind that of 2024’s Pushpa 2 – The Rule, which minted $97.9M. Note Pushpa 2 was a Tollywood title (Telegu language), while Dhurandhar: The Revenge is Bollywood (Hindi language).

But, in terms of Hindi-language titles, Dhurandhar: The Revenge‘s global start is definitely a record ahead of 2023’s action thriller Jawan ($63M WW).

Comscore reports that the 3-day global weekend for Dhurandhar 2 was $56.5M — No 2 at the global weekend B.O. behind Amazon MGM Studios’ Project Hail Mary with nearly $141M and ahead of Disney/Pixar’s third weekend of Hoppers ($52.2M). Of Dhurandhar 2′s global 3-day, $46.6M comes from foreign, while the 5-day foreign cume was $67M. The second chapter unspooled in non-traditional markets for Indian titles — read Uruguay, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Chile, Mexico and Cyprus — but didn’t have the Middle East in its opening suite.

In the sequel, Hamza Ali Mazari, whose real identity is Jaskirat Singh Rangi (Ranveer Singh, one of India’s reported highest-paid actors), pursues his undercover operation within Pakistan’s criminal world while tracking down Majo.

In North America, Dhurandhar: The Revenge posted a $10M 3-day weekend and $14M over 5-days at 987 sites, making it a record opening for a Bollywood movie ahead of 2023’s Pathaan ($6.9M 3-day, $9.5M 5-day) and slightly behind the opening record for an Indian title, 2017’s Baahubali 2 ($10.4M, 3-day). Box Office Guru noted about Dhurandhar: The Revenge, “This is an incredible opening, especially for a four-hour movie playing to just 3% of the population.” The sequel’s 3-day edged out Searchlight’s glossy horror follow-up, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come ($8.8M opening), which originally was intended to be counter-programming in a frame lorded by Project Hail Mary.

In India, per the distributor, Dhurandhar: The Revenge‘s first day was $15.M (₹145 Cr India) with an opening weekend of $49.8M (₹466 Cr) and five-day of $58.8M (₹550 Cr). According to Jio Studios & B62 Studios the sequel posted the highest advance ticket sales ever for a movie in India, had the highest paid previews, and was the fastest movie to cross $32M (or ₹300 Cr).

I saw Dhurandhar at the insistance of my Indian co-worker. I wasn’t expecting much but within the first few minutes it just felt like it was on some other level from other Indian movies. Absolutely loved it, looking forward to see this second part.

Ranveer Singh, in my opinion, I think he will pull it off and become a TRUE PAN INDIA BEAST due to his acting caliber.

This movie part 1 and 2 has raised the bar extremely high and will become a true landmark in terms of content and box office
