Netflix released a new Danish mystery thriller titled The Secret Woman this week and it is already at No. 4 in the streamer’s Top 10 movie chart!

Originally titled Den hemmelige kvinde, the film was directed by Barbara Topsoe-Rothenborg and adapted from the novel by Anna Ekberg.

What is The Secret Woman about?

The movie follows Louise Andersen, a woman with no memory of her earlier life who runs a cafe on the Norwegian island of Hidra. Her world is upended when a stranger claims that she is actually Helene Soderberg, a wealthy Danish woman who disappeared three years earlier.

When we first meet her, she has a partner named Joachim and their lives are upended when this stranger appears and claims Louise is actually a heiress.

Louise Andersen lives a quiet life on the Norwegian island of Hidra with her partner, Joachim, where she runs a small café. Louise is the film’s main character, a woman who built a life in Norway after losing her memory and then learns she’s actually a Danish shipping heiress who disappeared three years earlier.

Claes Bang as Edmund Soderberg

Edmund is Helen’s husband who is connected to the wealthy life she left behind. Claes Bang is quite popular and viewers might recognize him from The Square, BBC/Netflix’s Dracula, The Northman, Bad Sisters, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, or The New Look.

He has also been cast in a leading role in Netflix’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed series.

Pal Sverre Hagen as Joachim

Joachim is Louise’s partner in Norway. Pal is an accomplished stage and screen actor best known for playing Thor Heyerdahl in the Oscar and Golden Globe nominated movie Kon-Tiki. He’s also seen in What Happened to Monday and The Couple Next Door.

Stina Ekblad as Caroline

Caroline is Helene’s mother-in-law and Edmund’s mother. Stina is a Finnish actress whose credits include Amorosa, Pensionat Oskar, Crimes of Passion, A Day and a Half, and Wallander.

Thea Sofie Loch Naess as Maria

Maria is part of Louise’s life at the cafe in Norway. Thea has starred in notable projects like The Ugly Stepsister, The Last Kingdom, and Twilight of the Gods.

Ingrid Bols Berdal as Iben Rask

Ibel is a Norwegian police officer connected to the investigation into Louise’s identity. Ingrid is known for Chernobyl Diaries, Cold Prey, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, and Westworld.

Lars Simonsen, Thomas Voss, Rasmus Hammerich, and David Elting Geresia also star. The Secret Woman is now streaming on Netflix.
