EXCLUSIVE: Wave, the next-gen digital entertainment company, has inked a deal with comedians Langston Kerman and David Gborie to oversee ad sales and distribution for their comedy podcast, My Momma Told Me.
The pod joins Wave’s expanding comedy slate, which as of last winter, includes So True with Caleb Hearon, as we first reported. As part of his growing partnership with the company, Hearon will serve as executive producer of My Momma Told Me, which will live under his So True umbrella.
Each week on My Momma Told Me, Kerman and Gborie dive into the most entertaining, outrageous, and occasionally problematic Black conspiracy theories, joined by comedians and special guests who unpack everything from harmless family folklore to the wild stories passed down by that one uncle everyone knows. Previous guests include Will Ferrell, Bob the Drag Queen, Janelle James, Lamorne Morris, Zack Fox, KevOnStage, Rico Nasty, and more.
On the My Momma Told Me deal, Hannah Kyle Crichton, Executive Producer at Wave, said: “Langston and David have built a hilarious, distinctive show with a deeply engaged audience, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to Wave as we continue expanding our comedy slate. Hearon said, “David and Langston are two of the funniest guys doing it. I’m a massive fan of them both and it’s a privilege to be on their team despite the regressive and disturbing political views they hold in private. I hope we all become problematically rich from this otherwise it will have been a massive waste of time.”
An L.A.-based comedian, writer, and actor, Kerman’s most recent special Bad Poetry, directed and produced by John Mulaney, released on Netflix last year. He co-created, exec produced and starred in Peacock’s Bust Down, wrote for and appeared on Netflix’s Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, and was also head writer and an EP on Pause With Sam Jay, which was WGA Award-nominated for its first and second seasons on HBO. In TV, Kerman stars alongside Jake Johnson in the upcoming NBC series Sunset PI from Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici. He will also be seen coming up in Amazon’s Barbershop TV series, as well as Jonah Hill’s Warner Bros. comedy Cut Off. He is repped by WME, Rise Management, and Ziffren Brittenham.
A comedian, writer, and voice actor from Denver, Colorado, Gborie has appeared on NBC’s A.P. Bio and TBS’s Chad, and can currently be heard as the voice of Comedy Central. Additional credits include Adult Swim’s Royal Crackers, Netflix’s Exploding Kittens, Apple TV’s The Instigators, and the comedy special Gbirth of a Nation, which is out now. He is repped by 3 Arts and Cohen Gardner.
