Priyanka Chopra knows what a man's gotta do for a loving relationship.
Indeed, the Citadel star shared insight into how her husband Nick Jonas embracing Indian culture and traditions has continued to strengthen their eight-year-long marriage.
"I don't know if I'd love him if he didn't," Chopra exclusively told E! News at the Cycle of Love New York premiere Aug. 20. "That is a big part of any story or any relationship that is multicultural. I think it's really important to have a sense of respect for your partner's roots."
Since tying the knot in 2018, the Jonas Brothers member has taken the responsibility in stride, celebrating Hindu holidays, listening to Hindi songs and ensuring their 4-year-old daughter Malti maintains a deep connection to her Indian heritage.Â
And when it comes to staying head over heels in the moment, Chopra revealed a very simple key to maintaining their sweet bond.
"Being kind to your partner," she added. "That's something that's really important."
As she worked as an executive producer on the upcoming documentary Cycle of Love, the story of P. K. Mahanandia and Lotta Von Schedvinâwhose children Emelie Mahanandia Von Schedvin and Karl Mahanandia Von Schedvin are also producers on the projectâbecame a constant reminder of that key.Â
After all, Mahanandia, a Delhi street artist from a Dalit family, traveled 6,000 miles across multiple countries on a bicycle at just 23 years old in 1977 to find the Swedish woman he believed he was destined to marry.Â
He knew that Von Schedvin was meant to be his future wife after finding out that she matched all the characteristics of his soulmate, which he had learned through an astrological reading given when he was a baby.
"Now they've been married for 50 years, and their kids are producing this movie with me," Chopra said. "Everything about it is so heartwarming, and just makes me feel like, in this crazy world right now, it's this ray of sunshine."
Looking at Mahanandia and Von Schedvin's epic romance, the 44-year-old also learned a very important lesson from their story: "Resilience, standing by the person that you love."
For director Orlando von Einsiedel, that was what led him to document the couple.
"I was lucky enough to meet P.K. and Lotta, and they are so warm and open-hearted and generous," he told E!. "I fell head over heels in love with them but also their story. It's so full of incredible themes, from love and human unity to destiny and magic."
And having Chopra put a spotlight on the documentary was a dream come true.
"When we began this project, and we were thinking about the ideal executive producer who might work for us, everybody said Priyanka Chopra," he recalled. "A few years later, she saw the film and got in touch and said, 'Can I join the team?' It blew all of our minds. Priyanka is a master of what she does. She's a global megastar."
He couldn't help but praise the Quantico alum as she championed the project behind the scenes.
"She's done a lot of work," von Einsiedel added. "You have to fight these days to get independent films. You have to fight to get the film distributed, to get it seen. Priyanka has done a lot of work helping us with that."
