EXCLUSIVE: Maximo Salas, Annie Mumolo and Rory Scovel have been upped to series regulars for Season 2 of HBO’s comedy Rooster.
Salas (The Runaways) plays Tommy, who viewers learned is Cristle’s (Mumolo) son, after he and Greg (Steve Carell) forge a bond over writing in the classroom. Mumolo’s (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) Cristle is assistant to John C. McGinley’s Ludlow College president Walter Mann. She and Greg had a romantic spark in the show’s first season. Scovel (Physical) portrays Officer Donnie Mullins, who always has his eye on Greg.
Rooster is set on the Ludlow college campus, where author Greg Russo’s daughter Katie (Charly Clive) teaches art history. Greg visits for a guest lecture in Season 1 and is offered a visiting professorship and seminar by Mann. Despite his daughter wishing he would let her figure out her complicated marriage to Russian studies professor Archie Bates (Phil Dunster) by herself, he takes the offer to try and help her out.
Rooster also stars Danielle Deadwyler as Dylan Shepherd and Lauren Tsai as Sunny Salewski. Connie Britton guest stars as Elizabeth, Greg’s ex-wife and Katie’s mother, who also has ties with Ludlow. Alan Ruck also guest stars as Dean Riggs, longime friend of Walt, but also a man of questionable behavior.
Season 2 of Rooster hails from co-showrunners Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. The second installment is executive produced by Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer for Doozer, Matt Tarses, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Hyman, and Steve Carell. The studio is Warner Bros. Television, where both Doozer and Tarses are under overall deals.
