Billie Joe Armstrong is turning one of punk rock’s most recognizable guitar sounds into a signature Marshall amplifier.
Marshall has unveiled the 1959BJA Artist Signature, a handwired, 100-watt amp developed with the Green Day frontman and modeled in part on the guitar tone heard during the band’s “Dookie” era. The release marks Marshall’s first artist-signature amplifier in 14 years.
The baby-blue amp was first spotted behind Armstrong during Green Day’s opening act performance at the 2026 Super Bowl. It will officially go on sale July 21 on Marshall’s website for $3,999.99.
Built on Marshall’s handwired 1959HW platform, the 1959BJA features a custom “Dookie Mod” inspired by the sound Armstrong developed with producer Rob Cavallo around Green Day’s 1994 breakthrough album. According to Marshall, the modification adds gain, tighter low frequencies and a more saturated punch while retaining the foundation of a classic plexi-style amplifier.
The amp’s appearance also nods to “Blue,” Armstrong’s heavily stickered blue Stratocaster-style guitar, which has been central to his career since Green Day’s early years. The head features baby-blue covering, brass and silver panel details, custom branding and Armstrong’s signature across the front and back panels.
“I’m so overjoyed to have my own signature Marshall amp,” Armstrong said in a statement. “These amps have been a part of my musical life, from my heroes down to little old me. Turn it the f— up!!”
The U.K.-made, single-channel amplifier includes presence, three-band EQ, master volume and gain controls, along with high- and low-input options. It uses three ECC83 preamp valves and four EL34 power amp valves. The 1959BJA is being sold as a head-only unit, allowing musicians to pair it with a cabinet of their choosing.
“Billie Joe’s guitar sound is instantly recognizable,” Steph Carter, Marshall’s culture marketing director, said in a statement. “From the moment you hear those opening chords on ‘Dookie,’ you know exactly who it is.”
