Stephen Spinella and Jason Veasey have been promoted to series regulars of Fox‘s Best Medicine, ahead of the show’s second season, premiering this fall.
Spinella and Veaset play husbands Greg Garrison and George Brady, respectively, co-proprietors of Port Wenn’s favorite eatery, The Salty Breeze. After escaping their chaotic New York City life 18 years ago, Greg and George moved to Port Wenn, Maine, where they know all the really good gossip, dabble in local real estate, and claim the distinction of having the best lobster rolls in all of Southeast Maine six years in a row.
“Nothing makes me happier than to make it official with Stephen Spinella and Jason Veasey as our beloved Greg and George. To work with two gentlemen who make every scene funnier, warmer, and more surprising, and happen to be wonderful people themselves, is all a showrunner can ever ask for, shared executive producer and showrunner Liz Tuccillo.
Added EP Rodney Ferrell, “Stephen and Jason have become essential to the fabric of Port Wenn, so making them series regulars is beyond thrilling, but welcoming members of the LGBTQ+ community to our permanent family during Pride month is the cherry on top.”
Based on the popular British series Doc Martin, Best Medicine is a one-hour comedy series that centers on Martin Best (Josh Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child.
Unfortunately, Martin’s blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, especially local school teacher Louisa Glasson (Abigail Spencer); however, tenacity is the creed of everyone in their small village, and the people who live there may be exactly what the doctor ordered.
The ensemble cast also includes Annie Potts, Josh Segarra, and Cree.Owned by Fox Entertainment, Best Medicine is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and is distributed by Fox Entertainment Global. Ben Silverman (The Office, U.S.), Rodney Ferrell (Stick), Howard T. Owens (Stick), Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City), Mark Crowdy (Doc Martin), Philippa Braithwaite (Doc Martin), Jay Karas, and Charles executive produce. Tuccillo also serves as showrunner.
The series is based on All3Media International’s successful format Doc Martin, which was produced originally in the UK by Buffalo Pictures in association with Homerun Film Productions, and brought to American audiences by Propagate Content.
