Paul Feig Plotting ‘The Italian Job’ – The Dish

EXCLUSIVE: Director Paul Feig in the early stages of planning a heist.

Paramount Pictures is in early talks with The Housemaid director to mount a follow-up to the 2003 film The Italian Job. The studio is out to writers right now, but no elements are yet attached.

Inspired by the 1969 Michael Caine-starring British film, the F. Gary Gray-directed The Italian Job starred Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron and Edward Norton. The film, notable for seeing the robbers escape in Mini Coopers before the inevitable double-crossing took place between the co-conspirators, did well at the box office, grossing $176 million worldwide.

Feig is coming off the hit The Housemaid, the Sydney Sweeney-starrer that grossed $400 million worldwide for Lionsgate, with a sequel in the works. The CAA-repped Feig’s other big films are Bridesmaids, The Heat and Ghostbusters.
