Ozzy Osbourne’s Ozzfest is due to return to the United States next year after a decade-long hiatus and a reemergence in Ozzy’s UK hometown.

Though Ozzy Osbourne died last year, his legacy lives on with a cornucopia of creative projects headed by his family. Among those is an AI-generated avatar, which is due to make an appearance at the upcoming resurrected Ozzfest. The final edition of Ozzfest was held in Inglewood, California, in 2018, and the new version will return to both the US and the UK next year.

So far, details are scarce. We don’t yet know where in the United States the iconic rock festival will be held, though an Instagram post shared on Monday (September 21) doubled down on the fact that a new US edition is in the works. Previously, the Osbournes announced that a UK edition would take place in Ozzy’s hometown of Birmingham next year.

“Ozzfest will come to the UK and US,” read the caption. “More info coming soon! Where are you hoping Ozzfest 2027 will pop up?”

No dates or lineups have been announced yet, but Sharon Osbourne previously said they wanted to “hear from everyone where we should go in America,” and that they needed to “find a lot of young, new talent, because that’s what [Ozzy] would want.”

As for the UK show, it will take place in Birmingham at the same venue where Ozzy’s final performance, the Back to the Beginning concert, took place in July 2025. There, he played a solo headlining set as well as a set with the original Black Sabbath lineup. Other performers included Anthrax, Pantera, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Halestorm, and more. Ozzy died only three weeks later.

That show will be making its way to the theater in the form of a concert film.

The Osbournes have been facing some backlash for their decision to create an AI-based Ozzy avatar, but the family remains undeterred. They’ve partnered with tech companies Hyperreal and Proto Hologram to create an avatar of Ozzy that could be used “on interactive touchscreens” and ads and make appearances at events such as Ozzfest.

“Elvis died 50 years ago, and everybody knows Elvis. I just want that for Ozzy,” said Sharon.

Jack Osbourne doubled down, assuring fans that “it’s gonna be so tasteful what we’re doing. It’s not gonna be fucking lame.” He also said it was something they discussed with Ozzy before his passing and that it’s something he knows his late father would be into.

Hyperrreal has previously created avatars of figures like the Notorious B.I.G., soccer star Lionel Messi, and Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee.
