Storied UK producer Hat Trick Productions is moving into live comedy.

The Derry Girls and How To Get To Heaven From Belfast producer has teamed with comedy producer Queenie Miller and Chump’s Comedy to launch the live comedy touring arm, which kicks off shows at the Edinburgh Fringe next month.

Hat Trick’s live comedy arm kicks off with shows including Freya Parker: An Hour of Decay!, Ada & Bron: The Origin of Love and the play Amnesia by Kimberley Hart-Simpson.

Miller is a scripted comedy producer at Hat Trick and has made live shows over the past two years at Edinburgh, while Chump’s Comedy is a Margate-based live comedy producer.

Hat Trick founder Jimmy Mulville said: “We are at heart a comedy company and want to produce comedy wherever people want to watch it – television, YouTube and in theatres.”

Notably, Hat Trick’s live operation has launched for the final Edinburgh Fringe that will be paired with the Edinburgh TV Festival, before the latter moves to Greater Manchester in 2027. Leading comedy executives have previously decried this decision as it will destroy the “alchemy” between the Fringe and Festival, which has in the past discovered huge talent like Richard Gadd and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Jon Thoday, who runs Hat Trick rival Avalon, recently said “no one from Avalon” will be going to the Greater Manchester TV Festival “if I’ve got anything to do with it.”

Hat Trick makes the likes of Derry Girls, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast and Smoggie Queens.

The London-based company recently unveiled a statement hire by bringing in BBC comedy boss Jon Petrie as Creative Director.
