’48 Hours’ Expands Use of Video Podcasting With ‘Woman in the Woods”

Erin Moriarty, the “48 Hours” correspondent, will take fans of the true-crime documentary series into new territory next week.

Moriarty will lead “The Woman in the Woods,” a six-part “48 Hours” podcast that mixes audio and video elements in the storytelling. The story blends audio with video, adding never-before-seen video content. photos and other visual elements to enhance the experience. Previous miniseries were audio-only.

Moriarty will explore the mystery behind Mindi Kassotis, whose friends were told she died in a hospital. Within a few months, they were told her husband, Nick, died too. All of their notions were shattered, however, when a woman’s dismembered body was found in a swamp outside of Savannah, Ga. — and police sketches of it resembled Mindi.

Over the course of Moriarty’s investigation, she explores the issue of Nick Kassotis’ previous military work and the effects it may have had on the couple, and probes why Mindi was rarely seen out by friends.

Video episodes will be released the same day as each audio episode, featuring never-before-seen interview footage from the original “48 Hours” broadcast alongside b-roll, photography and animated text. The series will be available on the “48 Hours” YouTube channel.
