Peacock has renewed The Five Star Weekend for a second season. The pickup comes as the Elin Hilderbrand adaptation has become Peacock’s #1 scripted series of all time in overall reach, currently standing at 2.1 billion minutes watched since the July 9 premiere.

While The Five Star Weekend was originally announced as a limited series, the door had been left open for it to continue in success — backed by deals put in place from the get-go. The show has options on Jennifer Garner, D’Arcy Carden, Regina Hall and Chloë Sevigny to come back for a second season, sources tell Deadline. (Those who have watched the eight-episode first installment would understand why its fifth lead, Gemma Chan, is not on the list, given her character’s story arc.)

As for where the Bekah Brunstetter-created series would go next, there was a clue in the Season 1 finale. When Hollis (Garner) and her longtime friends Dru-Ann (Hall), Tatum (Sevigny) and Brooke (Carden) were parting ways after a weekend in Nantucket, Brooke suggested they make the get-together an annual thing, pitching Greece as the next destination.

Hilderbrand’s original novel features an epilogue set one year later where the four women take an Italian trip, with Chan’s character Gigi piloting their flight home.

I hear there are also no deals in place for the two remaining Season 1 cast members to return full-time, Harlow Jane as Hollis’ daughter Caroline Shaw and Timothy Olyphant as Hollis’ love interest.

As Deadline reported yesterday, Five Star Weekend has been a breakout hit which is expected to be ranked among the Top 5 streaming original series during its first two weeks on the upcoming Nielsen charts.

Produced by Universal Global Television, The Five Star Weekend is centered on Hollis Shaw, a famed cook and best-selling author known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste, and warm demeanor, who suffers a devastating loss. Unable to move forward, the death starts to expose the cracks in Hollis’s picture-perfect life — her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter, and her growing pursuit of validation from her fans. In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life — childhood, college, motherhood — and one surprise guest. Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, the five “stars” will develop in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.
