“Just thinking I’d like to get out of here alive.” So says Anya Taylor-Joy‘s titular character Lucky in the official trailer for Apple TV‘s upcoming limited series, from creator/executive producer Jonathan Tropper and executive producer Reese Witherspoon.
Based on Marissa Stapley’s bestselling book, in the series, when a multi-million-dollar heist goes sideways, con artist Lucky (Taylor-Joy) is forced to go on the run. Pursued by both the FBI and a ruthless crime boss, Lucky must fight for her life — and a way out.
The A-list ensemble cast includes Annette Bening, Timothy Olyphant, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Drew Starkey, Clifton Collins, Jr. and William Fichtner.
The trailer reveals Lucky Armstrong (Taylor-Joy) has been brought up in a criminal life by her father, played by Olyphant. We then see an explosive scene followed by Lucky being chased by law enforcement led by her mother-in-law (Bening).
“Hello dear, it’s been awhile,” says Bening’s crime boss character Priscilla, to Lucky. “Where’s my son?”, she asks Lucky. “I don’t know,” says Lucky. Priscilla presses on, asking “Where’s my money?”, to which Priscilla replies, “I don’t have it.” Priscilla then warns, “That’s the wrong answer.”
Hailing from Apple Studios, Lucky is co-showrun, written and executive produced by Tropper (Apple TV+’s See and upcoming Your Friends & Neighbors) through his Tropper Ink banner under his overall deal with Apple TV+, alongside co-showrunner Cassie Pappas (Apple TV+’s Silo). The series is executive produced by Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine. Taylor-Joy executive produces through her production banner Ladykiller. Jonathan Van Tulleken will direct several episodes, including the pilot, and serve as executive producer.
Lucky premieres globally on Apple TV with the first two episodes on Wednesday, July 15, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through August 19.
