This will be the last time Jacknife Lee dismisses a text.
The music producer, who worked with Taylor Swift on her 2012 song "The Last Time," deleted an invitation to the Grammy winner's July 3 wedding with Travis Kelce after mistakenly believing that it was spam, according to his wife.
“'Wait, why weren’t we invited?'" Melissa Garner Lee recalled asking Jacknife (real name Garret Lee) in an HuffPost op-ed published July 8, after seeing photos of the couple's famous friends attending the Madison Square Garden nuptials. "'There are a thousand people there!'"
But, according to Melissa, her husband of 32 years didn't think much of it.
"'I got a text but I thought it was spam,'" she remembered him replying. "Yeah—remember I told you I got a text from her manager? But I didn’t respond to it. It didn’t sound like him.'"
"'I guess I thought someone was trying to hack my address book or something,'" Jacknife continued, before apologizing for the flub and reasoning that "it's really hot out there" in New York City. As he put it, "But why would you even want to go?"
“'I wanted to go because it would give me a bit of hope,'" Melissa told him, explaining that the wedding would've been a sign of "hope for some good in the world."
"And I obviously would have loved to hear the musical guests," she added. "I mean, Stevie Nicks was supposed to play!" (Spoiler alert: The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman did perform, as did Paul McCartney.)
Though Melissa was initially "reeling in frustration" over how Jacknife tossed away the much-coveted invitation like a crumpled up piece of paper, she soon realized that their life together was "filled with much bigger things to worry about than Taylor Swift’s wedding."
"Our marriage has never been perfect and sometimes we’re surprised that it’s still going," she wrote in her essay. "Thankfully, repair is the heart of our partnership."
And after another apology from Jacknife, as well as takeout dinner from their favorite restaurant, Melissa said the couple was back to their "usual flow."
"A missed wedding will not be what breaks us. We’re stronger than that," she wrote. "Still, it would’ve been fun to see her dress."
