The Inbetweeners star James Buckley has appeared to accidentally leak a plot detail for the new movie, with the first on-set photos also emerging online. Check out the posts below (spoilers ahead).
The third film is currently in production at Netflix, following 2011’s The Inbetweeners Movie and 2014 sequel The Inbetweeners 2. A teaser video confirmed the news earlier this month.
Buckley, who plays foul-mouthed Jay Cartwright, recently recorded a video for a fan on Cameo while in costume as his character. In the clip, presumably recorded from the set, he congratulated a couple on the news that they were expecting twins.
The actor used the “friends!” catchphrase, as well as some other popular lines from the original Channel 4 sitcom. However, Buckley seemingly gave away a spoiler regarding what Jay is up to in the third film.
He was seen wearing a blue polo shirt and a hi-vis yellow jacket, with the latter including a badge reading: ‘Cartwright Plant’. At one point in the video, Buckley seemed to clock that the badge was in view, before moving so it was no longer in the frame.

In The Inbetweeners series, Jay’s dad owned a construction company at a plant hire yard. Jay takes on a work experience role at the firm in the season two episode ‘Work Experience’.
The new Cameo footage suggests that the character could now work for his father permanently, or has perhaps taken over the business.
The Inbetweeners 2 saw Jay tell his friends one of his outrageous lies, bragging about his new job. He claimed to be enjoying a highly successful DJ career at an Australian nightclub, while living in a luxurious mansion.
Elsewhere, the first on-set photos of The Inbetweeners 3 have emerged, showing the characters at a wedding.
Buckley is seen in the images donning wedding attire, as are his co-stars Simon Bird (who plays Will), Joe Thomas (Simon) and Blake Harrison (Neil), as reported by the Daily Mail. It is not clear which character is getting married, but the photos show Ruby Wax’s daughter Marina Bye portraying the bride.
So glad Simon Bird is wearing will's glasses and not Simon Birds real glasses. That was my biggest concern.

The pictures also confirm that Emily Head (Carli D’Amato) and Martin Trenaman (Simon’s dad, Alan Cooper) will be returning.
In 2022, Buckley became the first non-US celebrity to make $1million from Cameo, where fans pay for well-known figures to record personalised messages. He later praised the platform for making him a millionaire, saying it had been a “godsend financially”.
The Inbetweeners creators and writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are back to helm the third film. “It’s been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we’re going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans,” they said in a statement.
The upcoming sequel was recently reported to be stalled due to an issue between Buckley and Emily Atack, who played Charlotte Hinchcliffe in the series. It is currently unclear as to whether this has been resolved.

During an interview with NME in 2024, Buckley reflected on the enduring appeal of The Inbetweeners. “I think it’s just because it’s quite funny – that’s it really,” he explained.
“It’s not particularly big or clever; some of it’s really silly. The whole ethos was we just wanted to make people laugh. We had this rule where we tried our hardest to make sure that something funny happened every 30 seconds.”
Last autumn, Joe Thomas said a potential return of The Inbetweeners would have to bring more of the same from the beloved characters, saying: “I think wisdom does not make a very good narrative. The Inbetweeners is full of characters who are delusional to a large extent.

CREDIT: Channel 4/Sky“It’s a show about delusion; Simon is naïve and romantic and thinks that he’s going to have this love story; and Will is pompous, he’s intellectually delusional; Neil’s obviously stupid; and Jay’s clearly delusional… he thinks that he’s this kind of sex god when actually he’s just this very vulnerable young man.”
The cast previously reunited for a 10th anniversary TV special in 2019, hosted by Jimmy Carr. NME recently argued that The Inbetweeners should be “left in a more innocent era”, following the initial reports of a third movie.
“Frankly, the potential for this reunion movie to be cringe in the wrong way is huge,” the feature read. “If the awkward foursome haven’t matured since we last saw them in 2014’s The Inbetweeners 2, it would be pretty sad. But if they have managed to shed all their adolescent chaos and confusion, they just won’t be the characters we know and love.”
