Indeed, the film’s star Jennifer Garner has given a glimpse of the magic that’s to come in the Netflix reboot, starring Emily Bader and Logan Lerman, including how the new project will honor the 2004 film.
“I feel like the legacy of our director Gary Winick, who died of brain cancer after we wrapped that movie, [continues],” Garner exclusively told E News’ Erin Lim Rhodes at the Los Angeles premiere of The Five Star Weekend on July 8. “It just makes me so happy.”
The Alias alum—who portrayed character Jenna Rink alongside Mark Ruffalo's Matt Flamhaff—is also happy to pass the mantle to Bader, saying, “That little Emily, she’s adorable.”
As for any plot details for the reboot, those are being kept under wraps—even Garner, who serves as executive producer for the project, doesn’t know what updates will be featured.
“I don’t really know what it’s going to be,” the Juno actress confessed. “But I think people will have a blast watching it.”
And while it may be hard to live up to the expectations of the original film, a new version of 13 Going on 30 may be good for Garner’s family, as she previously revealed that her movie led to some “tortured years” for her kids.
“It was showing up at birthday parties a lot, or sleepovers, and the parents thought, ‘Oh, this will be a fun thing,’” the mom of three—including Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13, with ex Ben Affleck—told Kylie Kelce on the Feb. 26 episode of Not Gonna Lie. “My kids were, first of all, mortified. And second of all, so upset to see me sad, so upset to see me being in love… and, also, it's just so cringe.”
Although the 13 Going on 30 reboot won’t be out soon—it’s currently filming—there are plenty of new projects to watch this year. Keep reading to check out upcoming premiere dates…
