Danica McKellar is opening up about her move from Hallmark Channel to Great American Family and why she doesn’t feel like she “left” Hallmark.

The 51-year-old actress just announced her upcoming holiday movie for Great American, The Greatest Christmas Gift. The movie will air on Great American Family and stream on Great American Pure Flix laster this year.

Danica McKellar has become one of the most cherished, trusted stars of Great American Christmas because audiences know the stories she tells will leave them encouraged, uplifted, and inspired,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media.

In a new interview with Us Weekly, Danica explained that she’s making movies with Great American because of Abbott.

“It’s interesting, because when I joined Great American, I would call it coincidental timing, but it was obviously divine timing. You know, Bill Abbott, he had been at Hallmark and he asked me to come over. And, I mean, I credit him with my whole career, like my whole second life of a career after The Wonder Years and The West Wing, like coming into this whole Christmas movie, rom-com era of my life. That’s Bill Abbott,” she began.

“People were like, ‘Oh, why did you leave Hallmark?’ I didn’t leave Hallmark. I stayed with the person, you know what I mean?” Danica said. “The timing of that, also me coming to faith, was completely not planned and one didn’t influence the other. It just happened to work out that way. So that was a godwink.”

Bill Abbott left Hallmark Channel in early 2020 amid controversy and he launched Great American Family a year later, bringing stars like Danica and Candace Cameron Bure to the network with him.
