While the Emmys were happening in Los Angeles, plenty of stars were on the opposite side of the continent to attend movie premieres at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival and we’re recapping all of the events that happened on Monday, September 14.
Oscar winner Penelope Cruz, real-life sisters Rooney Mara and Kate Mara, and Lily James are just some of the stars who were on the red carpet in Toronto for the premieres of their films.
TIFF is often the launchpad for awards season movies, so we’re going to have a better idea of Oscars frontrunners once this festival wraps up.

Bunker is a dramatic thriller that examines the emotional and moral challenges faced by a couple as the anxieties of an increasingly uncertain world begin to reshape their marriage, exploring the fears, doubts and ethical dilemmas that define our time.
Bucking Fastard
The Mara sisters were joined by co-stars Domhnall Gleeson and Orlando Bloom for their Bucking Fastard premiere on Monday night.
Here’s the synopsis:
Bucking Fastard is about two sisters, Jean and Joan Holbrooke (Kate Mara, Rooney Mara), who are so close to each other that they speak in unison, love the same man, and have the same dreams. They even make the same slip of tongue in unison. We cannot see the world as they see it, but we do see how the world reacts to them – through the courts and the press, through those that want to help and those who want to use them, through the eyes of beasts both tame and wild, and even through their own echoes in the core of the earth.
The movie also had a Venice premiere earlier this month!

It is 1995, and American author Highsmith (Mirren), now in her seventies and in poor health, has retired to the Swiss Alps, where she largely confines herself to her study, surrounded by her books, her cats, and her collection of antique weapons. Enter Edward Ridgeway (Ehrenreich), emissary for a New York publisher sent to persuade Highsmith to craft one last instalment in her bestselling series of mysteries featuring the murderous antihero, Tom Ripley. Irritated by this youthful, overly eager visitor, Highsmith refuses the offer — unless, that is, Ridgeway can dream up the perfect murder along with her.
