AMC Networks is changing its name to AMC Global Media, a rebranding in keeping with changes in the broader media landscape and within the company.

The company announced the shift Wednesday in an SEC filing.

Linear cable television is the company’s main heritage, but streaming has become a key area of strategic focus. Originally known as Rainbow Media, it spun off from Cablevision, a major pay-TV provider founded by Charles Dolan in 1973. The Dolan family remains a force in sports and live events, operating MSG Entertainment, MSG Sports and Sphere Entertainment along with maintaining control of AMC Global Media.

While cable networks AMC, IFC and BBC America remain part of the company’s portfolio, streaming now accounts for the majority of its total revenue. Subscription streamers include Shudder, Acorn TV and AMC+, and the company has dozens of FAST channels organized by theme or IP.

“Our new name reflects the ongoing transformation of our business into a global media and studio-driven company, with streaming out front as our leading source of domestic revenue,” CEO Kristin Dolan said in a statement. “AMC Global Media produces and curates high-quality content and distributes it to viewers around the world through a variety of platforms and partnerships.”

Media industry peer A+E Global Media made the same change in 2025, ditching “networks” in favor of “global media.”

AMC Global Media made the move as it gets set for a high-profile series debut, with the first season of contemporary tech industry drama The Audacity set to premiere on Sunday on AMC and AMC+. The series has already been renewed for a second season. Season 4 of detective thriller Dark Winds, a critics’ darling since its debut, wrapped up last Sunday. Later this year will see the premieres of The Terror: Devil in Silver; You’re Killing Me, a new Acorn TV series starring and executive produced by Brooke Shields; and a third Interview with the Vampire season.
