EXCLUSIVE: HBO set its directing team for Season 2 of Task, and all are women. Georgie Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie), Clare Kilner (House of the Dragon) and Kitty Green (The Assistant) will join returning director Salli Richardson-Whitfield (Task, The Gilded Age) to helm Season 2 of the critically acclaimed crime drama series. It’s currently in pre-production on the second season.
Season 2 stars returning Mark Ruffalo as Tom Brandis, along with Mahershala Ali as Eddie Barnes. Edgar Ramírez as Miguel Contreras, Harry Melling as Brennan Boylan, Adam Nagaitis as Luke Clemmons and Aminah Nieves as Nataly Zamora.
Created by Brad Ingelsby, the first season of Task found Ruffalo’s Brandis forming a task force to track down a crew of masked robbers, led by a working-class family man, that were carrying out a series of violent crimes in the Philadelphia area. In Season 2, Brandis takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who’s the target.
Ingelsby serves as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer. Paul Lee and Mark Roybal executive produce for wiip, along with Jeremiah Zagar, Richardson-Whitfield, Ruffalo, and Ron Schmidt. Nicole Jordan-Webber and Karen Wacker co-executive produce. Casting is by Bialy Thomas & Associates.
Richardson-Whitfield made Emmy history as the first Black woman nominated for Outstanding Directing Drama Series for her penultimate episode of the final season of HBO and Adam McKay’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Under a multi-year overall deal with HBO since 2020, Richardson-Whitfield continues to serve as executive producer and director on Season 2 of the hit HBO drama, The Gilded Age. She’s repped by More/Medavoy Management, Kaplan-Stahler Agency, and Innovative Artists.
Banks-Davies is a BAFTA-award winning director known for her work across several critically acclaimed series, including Paper Girls, I Hate Suzie (her television debut), and The Night Manager. She most recently directed season 2 of The Night Manager for BBC One and Amazon, starring Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman. Her film work includes the short film Garfield, which premiered to acclaim at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Kilner is a multi-award-winning filmmaker born in the UK and raised in Argentina. She directed and executive produced multiple episodes of HBO’s House of the Dragon. Most recently, she helmed episodes of Netflix’s Man On Fire, Amazon’s Fallout and the season finale of Mosquito Coast for Apple, among others. On the film side, she helmed her first feature Janice Beard, starring Rhys Ifans, to critical acclaim, and went on to direct How To Deal and The Wedding Date. Kilner is repped by manager Ragna Nervi and Jennifer Good at Paradigm.
Green’s feature The Royal Hotel, starring Julia Garner and Jessica Henwick, premiered in 2023 at Telluride and Toronto to critical acclaim. Her debut narrative feature, The Assistant, premiered at Telluride in 2019 with Julia Garner starring. Her previous work includes Casting JonBenet that premiered at Sundance in 2017 and sold to Netflix. Green broke out with her debut film, 2013’s Ukraine is Not A Brothel. Her upcoming feature The Spacesuit. starring Vanessa Kirby and Lewis Pullman, was launched by Hanway Films at this year’s Cannes Market. Green is repped by UTA and Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman.
