EXCLUSIVE: Following the success of The Housemaid, Paul Feig is looking to get even darker with his next thriller as he is coming on to direct Detention for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Platinum Dunes. The spec was written by Daniel Gold with Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller, Cameron Fuller, Feig and Laura Fischer on as producers.

The logline for the film is being kept under wraps. No studio is currently attached but sources say Universal will likely get a first crack at it given their relatinoship with Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Steven Schneider, Bea Sequeira, and Daniel Gold are executive producers. Detention is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse Atomic Monster production.

Cameron Fuller has spearheaded the package from the start initially finding the script and then bringing it to Feig. While the plot is being kept under wraps, sources say the film will be a horror thriller, which excited Feig who after successfully directing the global hit The Housemaid this past Christmas, wanted to try something even darker for his next thriller.

Once Feig was on board, bringing the package to Blumhouse Atomic Monster made sense given that Platinum Dunes and Blum had made 8 films together going back to the first Purge pic.

Feig most recently directed and produced The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, which earned over $400 million at the global box office, becoming Feig’s most successful film to date. Feig is currently in pre-production on a sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, set for release on December 17, 2027. Feig has a proven track record of films that have grossed over 1.6 billion dollars worldwide include Bridesmaids, Last Christmas, The Heat, Ghostbusters, Spy, A Simple Favor and its sequel Another Simple Favor, which broke records as Prime Video’s second most watched original thriller ever.

Gold is currently penning Ride Along 3 for Universal and recently sold his spec Tough Guys to Amazon MGM, a comedy set to star Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell.

Paul Feig is represented by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Gold is repped by CAA, Underground, and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
