Cristiano Ronaldo is responding to a major mix-up.
Over the weekend, thousands of people mistakenly thought that the 41-year-old Portuguese soccer star was tying the knot with longtime love Georgina Rodriguez on Saturday (August 8) on the island of Madeira, where he was born.
In pictures and videos that have since gone viral, thousands of attendees in his soccer gear could be seen swarming Funchal Cathedral amid rampant rumors that Cristiano‘s wedding ceremony was being held within the building under a fake name.
As it turns out, it wasn’t Cristiano and Georgina, but rather Madeira-bred French couple Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, who had to “fight their way into the venue,” per NDTV.
The soccer star’s sister Katia Aveiro reportedly fueled speculation by posting her arrival in Madeira for a “party,” per the outlet.
In response to a news report from the @jm_madeira account on Instagram, Cristiano left five crying laughing emojis.
Cristiano and Georgina got engaged in 2025, and he reportedly has said he plans to marry after the World Cup.
The two are parents to daughters Alana, 8, and Bella, 4. Cristiano previously welcomed twins Eva and Mateo, 8, and Cristiano Jr., 14. One of their children, a baby boy, tragically passed away during childbirth in 2022.
They sparked marriage rumors the year before their engagement when he called her his “wife.”
