The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is here, with Chris Evans returning and a new look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the new superhero blockbuster is set to hit cinemas on December 18, and will see Ant-Man, Thor, The Fantastic Four, various X-Men and more come together and face off against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

The trailer was shared by Disney today (Monday July 20), and it sees a new look at Doctor Doom in his mask. The two-minute clip opens with the destroyed Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, as Professor X (Patrick Stewart) shields his eyes from an explosion.

“Something’s coming,” an ominous voiceover says. “Something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.”

After a quick glimpse of Doctor Doom’s side profile, the trailer cuts to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor who rallies the Avengers, old and new, and explains the immense threat they are going to have to tackle.

“I’ve fought with many warriors in my time. They were far stronger than all of us put together, and they died. They died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one,” he says.

“Everything that they sacrificed will be for nothing if we do not stand together. Put aside your petty squabbles and presume nothing except this: if you return, you will return as brothers and sisters. But mark my words, we’re going to need a miracle.”

The clip also includes first glimpse of Gambit (Channing Tatum), Cyclops (James Marsden), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Yelena (Florence Pugh) Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) and more, as well as a quick glance at Thor attempting to use his Stormbreaker to defeat Doom.

At the very end, the trailer shows the return of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers – who proves his identity by effortlessly lifting Mjolnir.

While this is the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, there have been some teasers released steadily already, which have included new looks at Thor, Captain America, Cyclops, Black Panther (Letitia Wright) and more. The new trailer marks the first look at Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, although did feature briefly in 2025’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, but his face was not shown.

The Oscar-winner was confirmed to be playing the classic villain in Avengers: Doomsday nearly two years ago, following on from him famously playing Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU.

Last month, Tom Holland revealed he was one of the first people that the actor told about his Doctor Doom casting, and said that he found it hard to keep it quiet because he thought it was “really exciting”.
