EXCLUSIVE: Railroad Daddy Morgan Spector is poised to succeed America’s Dad Tom Hanks as Professor Robert Langdon. The Gilded Age star is in negotiations to headline Netflix‘s series adaptation of Dan Brown‘s latest novel, The Secret of Secrets, sources said. Rebecca Hall (The Town) is in talks for the female lead opposite Morgan in the series from Brown and showrunner Carlton Cuse, I hear.

The casting does not mean a departure from HBO’sThe Gilded Age for Spector who stars as fan favorite railroad tycoon George Russell. According to sources, he would be able to do both with proper scheduling should Gilded Age gets renewed for a fifth season. (Season 4 is expected to come out this fall.)

In The Secret of Secrets, symbologist Robert Langdon (Spector) races against ancient forces and time to rescue his girlfriend, missing scientist Katherine Solomon (Hall), and her groundbreaking manuscript whose discoveries have the power to forever change humanity’s understanding of the mind.

Brown and Cuse are co-creators, writers and executive producers, with Cuse serving as showrunner. Emma Forman of Cuse’s Genre-Arts also executive produces.

Filming is slated to begin this fall in Prague where the book is set.

Published by Doubleday in September, The Secrets of Secrerts is the sixth book in Brown’s Robert Langdon series following Angels & Demons (2000), The Da Vinci Code (2003), The Lost Symbol (2009), Inferno (2013) and Origin (2017). Fueled by the massive worldwide success of The Da Vinci Code, Brown’s novels have sold over 250 million copies in 56 languages.

Three of the novels have been adapted into features starring Hanks as Langdon and directed by Ron Howard, The Da Vinci Code (2006), Angels & Demons (2009) and Inferno (2016), which have grossed combined $2.24 billion worldwide (adjusted in 2025 dollars). A fourth, The Lost Symbol, was turned into a 2021 Peacock series with Ashley Zukerman as a younger version of Langdon. It ran for one season.

This would mark a return to Netflix for Spector who recently recurred on the streamer’s limited series Black Rabbit. Hall is coming off Ryan Murphy’s FX series The Beauty.
