EXCLUSIVE: Sam Salem, a former Midwestern high school teacher who is now a full-time stand-up, is launching a new podcast with All Things Comedy, titled After School Snack, on June 11.
The podcast sees Salem attempt to circumvent his lack of culinary skills as he recreates his guests’ favorite nostalgic snacks from their upbringing, ahead of conversations centered around storytelling about their middle and high school experiences.
New episodes are set to air every Thursday, with video launching on YouTube and Spotify and audio available wherever listeners stream podcasts. Upcoming guests include comedians Joey Bragg, Leslie Liao, Ray Lau, Katherine Blanford and Shapel Lacey.
“I’m really proud to make something with my friends that I truly feel is worth people’s time,” Salem told Deadline. “And the name After School Snack is a little bit of an homage to my late mother. I’d come home from school, grab a snack, and she’d let me yap uninterrupted as I recounted my entire day. She’s a big reason why I talk for a living.”
Salem added, “I hope all my guests feel like I’m as present with them as my mom was with me. Having a little chat over a snack with someone you love is what life’s all about.”
After School Snack is produced by Max Castillo and will be overseen on the All Things Comedy side by Rebecca Edmonson, ATC’s Director of Network Operations, as well as Director of Network and Creative Strategy, Chance Nichols.
Salem is represented by Logan Potter at Authentic Talent and Literary Management, Gersh, and Granderson Des Rochers.
