Jay-Z might be a titan of music and industry, but his most important roles are arguably as supportive husband (to Beyoncé, no less) and dad.

In an interview with Extra at the New York City premiere of his Jay-Z in 8 documentary on Sunday (Sept. 13), the rapper gushed about his admiration for his ultra famous wife, particularly in regards to her courage. “I’m super inspired by her,” he told the outlet. “I think she’s a phenomenal producer and writer.”

“And she’s fearless,” Jay continued of Bey. “She tries all kinds of stuff. Some things she does I’m like, ‘I couldn’t do that.’ She’ll be sitting in the back, like, hollering ad libs and it’s just … I’ll get in the way of myself, I get too self-conscious about it. She’ll just try anything, anything.”

“You don’t have to keep it, but she tries things,” he added. “She’s very adventurous and her recall is amazing. She’s an amazing producer. I think because she’s such an extraordinary singer, people underrate the producer that she is. She’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.”

One of entertainment’s biggest power couples, Jay and Bey have been together since 2001 and married in 2008. Together, they’ve collaborated on both hit songs — including eight-week Billboard Hot 100-topper “Crazy In Love” — and children, welcoming daughter Blue Ivy in 2012 followed by twins Rumi and Sir in 2017.

Fast forward to 2026, and Blue is making a name for herself in the music business. She accompanied her mom as a dancer on both the Renaissance and Cowboy Carter World Tours.

“I’m more nervous for her than I am for myself,” Jay told Extra of watching his eldest up on stage. “Yeah, for sure. But she put in the work, and she’s a student, and she loves it. So, just to watch her find a way is just extraordinary as well.”
