EXCLUSIVE: Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist), William Mapother (Lost) and Spencer Locke (Insidious: The Last Key) are among cast for female-led psychological horror feature Shed, which recently wrapped production in Nashville, Tennessee.
Written by and starring Valerie Jane Parker (The Bikeriders) and directed by Mila Vilaplana, the movie follows Becca, “a successful but emotionally isolated young woman whose unresolved trauma begins haunting her from inside her own body”.
Cast also includes Kym Jackson (We Bury the Dead), Armando Rivera (Untitled Onyx/Hulu), Lilian Rebelo (Only Murders in the Building), Audrey Venable (Marbles), Taylor Novak (Where the Bullets Go), Liz Atwater (Hellcat), and Ronnie Meek.
Pic is produced by a predominantly female creative team and by Preacher’s Daughter Pictures and Dipsomania, two female-owned production companies. The feature expands on Vilaplana and Parker’s proof-of-concept short, which was accepted into ten film festivals.
Producing is Sarah Haas, and executive-producers are Valerie Jane Parker, Chris Connor and Cole Pendery of Shadowwood Ent.
“Shed explores the intersection of grief, identity and the body through a distinctly female lens,” said Vilaplana. “Amanda, Spencer, and William each bring something powerful and specific to this world, and we’re thrilled to have them join the cast.”
Parker added: “The response to the proof of concept made it clear that this story resonates. Expanding Shed into a feature gives us the chance to go deeper into trauma and transformation in a way that feels both intimate and unsettling. At its core, this is a horror story about grief, survival and the strange ways the body remembers.”
