Carmella Garcia and longtime boyfriend Danny Hampel have broken up.
While appearing on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea on Thursday (September 17), 44-year-old Real Housewives of Orange County star confirmed that she “called it quits with the general contractor “months ago.”
“I feel a range of emotions,” Carmella said. “I feel sad. It was a 10-year relationship. It was somebody that was around my children. But, at the end of the day, I needed to put myself first.”
Carmella – who joined RHOC this season for the milestone 20th season – has been very open about her past relationship struggles, revealing that Danny cheated on her four years ago.
While she didn’t reveal the exact reason why she broke up with Danny, Carmella did say she discovered he had done something “gravely inappropriate” soon after they wrapped filming.
“It was a very difficult situation because it was somebody that I loved very deeply, and I truly did want to get to a place of forgiveness, but I oftentimes ignore my intuition and there was just something deep down that I felt like I just didn’t trust,” the former Playboy Playmate said. “The dishonesty just continued and I called it quits.”
Carmella went on to share that her sons – Jason, 17, and Jax, 15 – from her previous marriage have “struggled” the most with her decision to break up with Danny, but acknowledged that it was “not a healthy” relationship to show her children.
“I have to be enough for myself and for him and for my children, and I was never enough for him,” she said. “That’s an issue that I feel like is his issue.”
“If I could change it for him, I would, but I can’t,” Carmella added. “The ship was sinking and I needed to save myself.”
The luxury real estate agent said that the “hardest part” of the breakup has been watching their relationship back on the show.
While admitting she’s hesitant about getting back out there and dating again, Carmella said she has hired a “team of therapists” to help her work through some of her own issues.
“I’ve struggled over the years [with] suppressing pain, and I felt like this is exactly where I needed to be,” she said. “I needed to walk through it, and the only way through it is straight through it.”
Along with her two sons, Carmella also shares daughters Presley, 18, and Faith, 14, with ex-husband Jeff Garcia. Carmella and the former NFL quarterback married in 2007 before publicly announcing their separation in 2020. They still remain legally married.
New episodes of The Real Housewives of Orange County air on Thursday nights at 8pm ET on Bravo and available for streaming the next day on Peacock.
