Hazelwood-heads unite, we are one step closer to witnessing Lili Reinhart‘s Olive Smith and Tom Bateman‘s Adam Carlsen onscreen. The Love Hypothesis is coming to Prime Video September 23.
Based on the book by Ali Hazelwood, the love story follows Olive Smith (Reinhart), PhD candidate studying cancer and trying to find a cure as she devises a fake dating scheme with the gruff Dr. Adam Carlsen (Bateman), whose reputation precedes him when it comes to being hard on students.
Additional cast in the film include Rachel Marsh (Adults), Nicholas Duvernay (The White Lotus), Jaboukie Young-White (Companion) and Arty Froushan (Daredevil: Born Again). Marsh will play Anh, Young-White will play Malcolm, Duvernay will play Jeremy and Froushan will play Tom.
Olive’s fake-dating ruse stems from wanting to let her best friend Anh (Marsh) date her crush Jeremy (Duvernay). When she realizes Ahn has fallen for her crush Jeremy, Olive impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen to prove she’s moved on.
“What begins as a desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement,” the logline reads. “When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.”
Directed by Claire Scanlon and written by Sarah Rothschild, the film is also produced by Elizabeth Cantillon and is one in a series of splashy projects hitting Prime Video in 2026, specifically in the summer and overlapping in the romance and book adaptation spheres. Lili and Tom will appear at the streamer’s inaugural Obsessed Fest June 27 alongside cast and creators of shows like Off Campus, Every Year After and many more.

Prime Video posted a clip of Lili Reinhart retrieving a coffee order for Olive, topped with a generous dollop of whipped cream but missing something. Reinhart then asks if she can get rainbow sprinkles on top. Readers know that Olive loves her sugary, flavored and colorful drinks.
