Billboard has reached out to Gaga’s reps for confirmation.
While Gaga and Polansky have yet to publicly comment on their daughter’s name, Rose seems to have a very sweet connection to Gaga’s personal music history.
The name is reportedly inspired by “La Vie En Rose,” the classic Edith Piaf song Gaga memorably performed in the 2018 film A Star Is Born, with its soundtrack spending four weeks atop the Billboard 200. The connection to this alluring song runs even deeper for Gaga, considering she has a large rose tattoo running down her spine, accompanied by the words “la vie en rose.”
According to People, the second part of Rose Bean’s name is a nod to Carl Bean. Bean was the singer and activist whose work inspired Gaga’s inclusive, extravagant Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Born This Way.”
Baby Rose’s name therefore comes together in true Gaga fashion, holding her own little piece of pop history.
The name reveal comes shortly after the news broke that Gaga and Polansky had quietly become parents. The couple has largely kept this side of their lives private, though Gaga was recently photographed out with their newborn in Northern California.
Before becoming a mom, Gaga spent much of the past year on the road supporting her sixth studio album, Mayhem, which also debuted atop the Billboard 200. The Mayhem Ball wrapped up in April after performances across five continents, with the tour grossing $419.5 million and selling just under 2 million tickets, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. The massive trek ranked among the 10 highest-grossing tours by a woman in Boxscore history.
Earlier this year, Gaga appeared in The Devil Wears Prada 2 as herself, contributing three new songs to its soundtrack.
Motherhood has been a long-awaited dream for Gaga, who has spoken publicly about wanting children. She described becoming a mother as her “next starring role” during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last year.
