Sony has dated the Tom Hanks movie baseball movie The Comebacker for July 30, 2027.
The pic, as Deadline first told you, reteams the 2x Oscar winner with filmmaker Marielle Heller who directed the actor in the Mister Rogers movie A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Based on a short story by Dave Eggers that was turned into a script by Heller, the film is a love letter to baseball and offers a plum part to an up-and-coming leading man. Hanks plays the pitching coach of a major league hurler whose life is upended when he is hit in the head by a line drive on the mound. The devastating comebacker changes his life in all kinds of ways.
Hanks’ Playtone is produced with Leah Holzer in cooperation with Major League Baseball. Sony beat out two other studios that were vying for the project.
Also opening on July 30 next year is Paramount’s A Quiet Place III.
