The M3GAN spinoff movie SOULM8TE was announced back in 2024 and now it’s finally being released to the world, though not as planned.
The first M3GAN movie was a box office hit and cultural phenomenon, bringing in $180 million worldwide. The sequel was a flop, only grossing $39 million worldwide despite so much anticipation. When Universal Pictures announced SOULM8TE was in production, it was given a release date of January 2, 2026. Well, that date came and went.
The studio has decided to skip the theatrical release and send the movie directly to VOD, where audiences can rent or purchase it on demand. Eventually, it will be sent to streaming services.
Unnerving, suspenseful, and darkly compelling, SOULM8TE follows a grieving engineer tasked with testing a ruthless tech giant’s new AI companion. But when he attempts to program her to be a truly sentient soulmate, she develops needs of her own – unleashing a relentless spree of precision-engineered mayhem.
Lily Sullivan plays the AI android in the movie alongside David Rysdahl and Claudia Doumit.
