A main character was shockingly killed off in the premiere episode of Lanterns on HBO Max.

Who died in the premiere of Lanterns?
Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) was killed off in the first episode.
However, just because his character died, does not mean that we won’t see him as the series progresses. The show takes on a non-linear structure and will jump around in time.
Thus, it actually seems clear we likely will see more of Kyle‘s Green Lantern.
In the premiere episode, amid a ten year time jump, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Kerry (Kelly MacDonald) find his body on the bleachers.
The stars are reacting to the big moment.
The show’s co-creator Damon Lindelof told Variety, “Whether it’s the right cliffhanger or not is basically in the hands of the audience now. But one of the very first things that was part of the premise was that this is a murder mystery with Green Lantern solving it, and then you sort of start at, ‘Well, who gets murdered and why are we supposed to care about them?’ The more that we talked about it, the more that it kept coming back to the idea of, ‘What if it was one of them?’”
Kyle said he cheered when he read the script: “Not just for the storyline and all that, but what a way great way to end the first episode of this show.”
