James Harden has been arrested.
The 36-year-old basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers was arrested early Saturday morning (June 13) in Houston, Texas and charged with a misdemeanor unlawful carrying of a weapon.
According to Harris County court records, Harden, who owns a home in Houston, was taken into custody at 3:41am when a handgun was observed on the seat of a car he owns, per ESPN. The gun was not holstered and was in plan view.
Harden was booked at 4:57am and later released after paying the $100 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for June 22.
A spokesperson for the Houston Police Department told TMZ that the NBA star was pulled over for a traffic violation.
Following the arrest, the Cavaliers released a statement addressing the news.
“The Cleveland Cavaliers are aware of the arrest of James Harden this morning and are in the process of gathering additional information. We are in contact with James and his representation and will continue to monitor developments as they become available. At this time, we will have no further comment.”
Harden‘s bond terms ban him from possessing any firearms, ammunition, or other weapons, and from using, possessing, or consuming any alcohol, controlled substance, dangerous drug, or marijuana unless prescribed by a doctor. He also must submit to random urinalysis.
James Harden has not publicly addressed his arrest at this time.
