Jay-Z is getting candid in a new conversation.

The 56-year-old hip-hop icon is taking part in an 8-part conversation years in the making as part of an HBO original documentary series, debuting this fall and directed by Rick Rubin.

JAŸ-Z IN 8 will be available to stream on HBO Max in the U.S.

Here’s the synopsis so far: “Rick Rubin sits down with JAŸ-Z to discuss his music, lyrics, life experiences, and creative process.”

“Everyone had the same experience, except I was the one that could stand on the soapbox and, like, articulate what we were going through,” Jay says in the teaser.

“Without the pain, you wouldn’t have done the work,” Rick notes.

“So the pain, we don’t say it’s necessary, we don’t say you need it, but if it’s there…you use it,” Jay concludes.

Further details have not yet been revealed. Watch above.

Beyoncé recently spoke out in a rare video about Jay-Z‘s hair.

In a new YouTube video called “The Blueprint” for her brand CÉCRED, she spoke about the 56-year-old’s hair transformation.

“Everyone wants to know the details of Jay’s hair transformation,” she said, explaining that he was planning to comb out his locs for his May 30 concert in Philadelphia in honor of his late father Adnis Reeves, revealing that their daughter Blue Ivy Carter was the real reason behind his new look.
