“Succession” star J. Smith-Cameron will star alongside “Yellowstone” actor Jefferson White in the upcoming independent feature film “In Our Own Sweet Way” from director, writer, and producer Jeff Rutherford. 

The film recently wrapped and is being produced under Rutherford’s banner Fred Senior Films, in association with Stoner Ranch Productions, Echo & Add, and Fair Oaks Entertainment.

The official logline reads, “In the spring of 1988, two discordant neighbors keep an eye on each other as love, desperation and yearning pull them into a strange, startling harmony.”

In a statement to Variety, Rutherford said, “Jefferson and J. are deservedly familiar to audiences around the country and the world. Here, they’re completely new and surprising.” He added, “It was an honor to work with them, and I’m excited for audiences to see the film and these two like they haven’t seen them before.”

White, who is also a producer on the film, is best known for his breakout performance in the acclaimed Paramount+ series “Yellowstone” and recently wrapped Amazon/MGM’s “Ally Clark.” Next up, he’s set to appear in Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.”

Smith-Cameron, best known to audiences for her role on “Succession,” recently appeared on HBO’s “Hacks” and had a guest role on CBS’ “Elsbeth.”

Smith-Cameron added, “‘In Our Own Sweet Way’ struck me as utterly original and imaginative from the moment I started reading it. Then I had a fabulous long talk with Jeff Rutherford and was really gratified with how intelligently he spoke about the film — he genuinely had a fresh, unique idea for it that he devoted himself to, and inspired us to devote ourselves to, as well. He and Alfonso Herrera Salcedo, the DP, had such a distinct look and tone in mind. Erin Orr who did the costumes and production designer Dan Maughiman, as well. Jefferson and I really connected – he’s a beautiful actor and a kindred spirit. I can’t wait to see it!”

Kyle Eaton joins Rutherford and White as producers. The film is executive produced by Alexandra Byer, Roger Mancusi, and Barry and Carmen Nordstrand. Alexander Spenser Gould is a co-producer.
