Madonna‘s new song “Bizarre” has people guessing who she’s singing about.
The track – a collaboration with EDM superstar Martin Garrix featured on her new album Confessions II, out on Friday (July 3) – features lyrics have people speculating that she might be singing about a “bizarre” love between her and her ex-husband, Sean Penn.
“Movie star, deep blue eyes / In Hollywood, we’re a perfect prize / He drove way too fast / Shelby Cobra, wasn’t meant to last,” she declares on the track.
If you didn’t know, Madonna reportedly gave Sean a Shelby GT500 as a wedding present in 1985, and he auctioned a Shelby Mustang in 2018.
“Roll out the carpet for us but you won’t share it / I guess you’re threatened by me, you won’t admit it / The little things that you did that mad? me want you / The fire was so int?nse,” she declares on the song.
The couple wed in August of 1985 before she briefly filed for divorce in 1987, then again for good in January of 1989. They first met in February 1985 on the set of her “Material Girl” music video shoot.
There were rumors of tension in their relationship, including whispers that Sean was physically abusive. The claims lasted for quite some time, and he even filed a defamation lawsuit over them in 2015. Madonna denied the allegation. Sean also made it clear that there was no truth to them.
The two have stayed close, and she even offered to re-marry Sean for a $150,000 bid during a charity gala in 2016. He spoke out about the status of their romance in 2024.
