Plex and ATX TV are taking “Friday Night Lights” on the road to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the drama. Across five cities, cast members will come together for screenings and live conversations, hosted by Adrianne Palicki, who portrayed Tyra Collette in the series.
All screenings will take place at Alamo Drafthouse locations, with stops in Dallas, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; San Francisco; Brooklyn, New York; and Kansas City, Missouri, at the Full Tilt Film Festival. At each stop, Palicki will be joined by different cast members. Together, they will watch an episode of their choosing with the fans, then take part in a moderated Q&A.
The roadshow kicks off in Dallas on July 9 with a screening of Palicki’s selected episode, “Underdogs,” from Season 3.
The cast of the show, which premiered on NBC on October 3, 2006, reunited in May for a large panel at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas, as part of As NBC100, the company’s year-long celebration. NBC celebrates its 100th anniversary, looking at the network’s history and future.
“It was pure magic. It proved what we already knew, which is that the series is unlike any other in terms of the people who made it loving it as much as the fans who it continues to resonate with,” says Caitlin McFarland, cofounder of ATX TV. “The series is not about football or about Texas, but instead about connection, community, and heart, and we are thrilled to keep this reunion going by partnering with Plex to bring it to fans across the country to celebrate together and with us.”
Fans can also come together to talk about each episode. ATX TV will post a dedicated discussion about each cast member’s selected episode on Plex’s new Discussions feature. Fans can communicate about Palicki’s first episode here.
“Few shows have the emotional staying power of ‘Friday Night Lights,’ and nearly 20 years later, the fandom is still incredibly active and passionate; we wanted to celebrate that,” says Jill Broek, head of growth marketing at Plex. “At Plex, we believe in the power of community and creating spaces for fans to come together around the content they love. This roadshow brings fans together in person and extends the conversation for everyone through Discussions, where people can react, comment, and connect around the series.”
