Ruby Rose is opening up about her friendship with actress Hayden Panettiere, who passed away in South Carolina on August 16 at age 36.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ruby, 28, said Hayden was a “best friend” and that they “spoke every day for five years.”
She became visibly emotional while speaking about the late Heroes star, saying she didn’t think they were going to become friends in the beginning because she didn’t have many celeb friends and hadn’t had a great experience in the entertainment industry.
“I saw her, she saw me, and I just remember thinking, ‘Oh, no.’ And then she ran up anyway and was like, ‘Hey, I’m Hayden. Can we go talk somewhere? We’ve got a lot in common.’ I just laughed,” she recalled.
They later chatted and Ruby said they had “everything in common” and shared “five years of friendship, texting every day and checking in on each other.”
“Hayden, all that she ever wanted was to have her story told, her way, on her terms,” the Batwoman star added.
Hayden will be celebrated soon at a memorial service in Malibu, but her mother, Lesley Vogel, and on-again off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson were reportedly not invited to the event.
