Warner Bros. Pictures Animation is partnering with animator and creator Vivienne Medrano on an original animated musical feature entitled Prehistoria and destined for a theatrical release.
The partnership sees the studio join forces with one of the most influential voices in independent animation to have emerged through the YouTube creator culture, whose animated adult black comedy series Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss have generated hundreds of millions of views.
Warner Bros. Pictures Animation President Bill Damaschke announced Prehistoria during the “Warner Bros. Pictures Animation – A New Chapter” presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Monday, revealing a first look at the artwork for movie set in the prehistoric world.
“Since I began my animation journey, my biggest dream was to be part of a feature film. Now to be creating an original story that I have been holding for years with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, a studio whose characters and stories have been a huge part of my life, is truly a dream come true. I’m So excited to share this fossil fantasy world with everyone,” said Medrano.
The animator, who goes under the moniker of VivziePop on YouTube and Vivziebizzie on Instagram, is best known for her shows Hazbin Hotel and spin-off Helluva Boss.
Launched as a pilot on YouTube in 2019, adult animated musical black comedy series Hazbin Hotel, revolves around the figure of Charlie Morningstar, crown princess of hell, who is on a mission to save lost souls in a bid to stop overcrowding in her domain.
Following its successful YouTube launch, Medrano’s company SpindleHorse teamed with A24, Amazon MGM Studios, and the animation studio Bento Box Entertainment for a first season of the show. It released on Amazon Prime Video in early 2024, to become one of the platform’s largest global debuts for an animated series. A second series followed in late 2025 and another three seasons are in the works. Spin-off Helluva Boss followed in its wake shortly after.
