After eight years lying dormant, Ozzfest will officially make its return to its late namesake’s hometown in 2027, at Villa Park in Birmingham, England.

Although the Prince of Darkness has passed away, Ozzfest walks again in 2027. A post to the Ozzfest official Instagram confirmed that the iconic heavy metal festival will take place next year at Villa Park in Ozzy’s hometown of Birmingham.

Ozzy’s widow, Sharon Osbourne, teased the return of Ozzfest earlier this year. During a March episode of the Osbournes Podcast, Sharon said she hoped the festival would be held in Birmingham first, followed by a return to the United States with two dates.

“We want to hear from everyone where we should go in America,” Sharon said to Jack at the time. “We’ve got to find a lot of young, new talent, because that’s what your dad would want.”

Thus far, no venue has been announced for a U.S. edition of the festival, which last took place in Los Angeles on December 31, 2018. Since that event, Ozzy experienced a series of health concerns and setbacks that prevented him from completing his planned farewell tour and nixed any plans for another Ozzfest.

Ozzy passed away in July 2025, just two weeks after an emotional farewell performance at Villa Park organized by Sharon and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, dubbed the Back to the Beginning concert.

The venue is significant, not only for being located in Ozzy’s hometown but also as the site of his final performance. Since then, several celebrations of the artist’s legacy have taken place in Birmingham, including the inaugural Ozzy Day, which took place one year after his death. The free event featured tributes to Ozzy that included art installations, street performances, and various musical performances, as well as other activities.

Ozzfest launched in 1996 as a traveling heavy metal alternative to Lollapalooza. It was instrumental in boosting the careers of many notable bands throughout the years, including Deftones, Disturbed, and System of a Down.

Earlier this year, Sharon and Jack unveiled plans for an AI Ozzy, an interactive avatar that will allow fans to engage with a facsimile of the artist in real time. And yes—Sharon revealed that the AI avatar will make an appearance at the 2027 edition of Ozzfest.
