MS Now’s new streaming platform, MS Now Membership, has set a slate of five original series toplined by Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell, Ali Velshi, Claire McCaskill and Andrew Weissmann.
The service launches today. MS Now said the additional content “represents the first phase of a programming strategy that will continue to evolve with new programs and experiences introduced over time, offerings rotating in and out, and the slate refined as we learn more about what resonates with Members.”
The initial lineup includes monthly longform interview series, Rachel Maddow: In Conversation With…, exploring major stories in politics, history and public life.
The four other shows are weekly. The Very Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell will see the host take members behind the scenes and “share one thing he couldn’t fit into his show but still wants them to know.”
Off the Charts with Ali Velshi airing Thursdays has Velshi at MS NOW’s Big Board for a deeper look at the latest polling and voter data and what it could mean for the upcoming elections.
In Political Potluck with Claire McCaskill, the former U.S. Senator and MS Now political analyst sits down with lawmakers, officials and Americans across the Midwest about what matters at their kitchen tables.
And Answers with Andrew Weissmann will see the legal analyst answer member questions, joined by special guests, on major legal developments.
MS NOW, which rebranded from MSNBC earlier this year as part of the Versant spinoff from Comcast, is looking to differentiate its streaming service with interactive features like live Q&As with talent and a moderated Community Hub where users can connect directly with one another around the news and shared interests, as well as with MS Now anchors, reporters, contributors and experts. The platform is also making live events a focus.
“We now have a more direct relationship with our Members. We can listen to them, learn from how they use what we’ve built, and continue to make it better. There are already more features, programming, and experiences in development, and what we learn from our Members will help shape what comes next,” said MS Now President Rebecca Cutler in a memo to staff Wednesday about the launch.
MS NOW Membership costs $7.99 a month or $79.99 year.
